Dr. Kim is a firm believer that we are human beings first before being defined by our diagnosis. This is why she incorporates spiritual assessment (using inner child narrative perspective) in the bio-psycho-social model. It is an honor to have our paths crossed and she wants to know how it has been like.
Taking psychotropic medications might not mean that you are “weak” to “need” it. It might mean that you have been trying your best. There is a lot of opinions and stigmas on taking psychotropic medications. Dr. Kim is not offended or discouraged by your concerns. In fact, she welcomes it. Let’s explore all treatment options so we can get you better.
Therapy is a space created by a trained professional to explore your emotions, thoughts, beliefs, and values. It also teaches us a skill to explore on our own. Dr. Kim believes that this skill of self-awareness and attentiveness are important in resilience and growth. As a psychiatrist, she holds this therapeutic space for each time she meets her patients. However, feedbacks show that her patients love doing therapy sessions with her due to her attentive, caring yet direct presence.
Currently, Dr. Kim is NOT taking insurance. We can provide a Superbill for you to file for reimbursement.
Patients with non-applicable insurances can opt to apply for reimbursement by an insurance company after the clinical encounter. We will provide you with a “Superbill,” or a receipt of the clinical encounter. Please talk to your insurance company if this is possible.

Not at all. People who ask for help know when they need it and have the courage to reach out. Everyone needs help now and then. In our work together, I’ll help you explore and identify your strengths and how to implement them to reduce the influence of the problems you are facing.
The difference is between someone who can do something, and someone who has the training and experience to do that same thing professionally. A mental health professional can help you approach your situation in a new way– teach you new skills, gain different perspectives, listen to you without judgment or expectations, and help you listen to yourself. Furthermore, counseling is completely confidential. You won’t have to worry about others “knowing my business.” Lastly, if your situation provokes a great deal of negative emotion, and you’ve been confiding in a friend or family member, there is the risk that once you are feeling better you could start avoiding that person so you aren’t reminded of this difficult time in your life.
Therapy is a very important part of healing work. However, if you find therapy difficult or ineffective, medication might be needed to help you engage in therapy. Our work together is designed to explore and unpack the problems you are experiencing and expand on your strengths that can help you accomplish your personal goals.
Because each person has different issues and goals for his/her mental health, it will be different depending on the individual. I tailor my therapeutic approach to your specific needs. What we ask is to be open and honest in this process.
Unfortunately, this is not possible to say in a general FAQs page. Everyone’s circumstances are unique to them and the length of time it can take to allow you to accomplish your goals depends on your desire for personal development, your commitment, and the factors that are driving you to seek the psychiatrist in the first place.
I am so glad you are dedicated to getting the most out of your appointments. Your active participation and dedication will be crucial to your success. Check out our resources in-between sessions and we can discuss more during your appointments!
